Fiji Shopping Guide

Fiji is really a shoppers delight, a place where you can get anything from brand name items to the most personal and exceptional native handcrafts. There are various villages and marketplaces to stroll around. Perhaps the best place to start the shopping adventure is in the main cities. Nadi, for example, is one of the most favourite shopping cities in all of Fiji since there are plenty of fantastic bargains and the items are duty-free too. Suva and Lautoka are also great shopping towns.

If you like to shop clothes, check out the incredible fabrics and the lovely silks. Why not buy something that will remind you of your time in Fiji? A Sulu, for example, is a traditional Fijian sarong or dress.

Almost every Fijian town has its own market selling fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood. There are also shops selling jewellery, silks and cotton, patronised mainly by the locals. Stroll down these vibrant markets and pick up things you may not find back at home.

Shops in Fiji are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. but are closed on Sundays. Shops in hotels and resorts keep longer hours and are open through the week. Major credit cards are accepted by most shops.

Shopping in Nadi

Shopping in Nadi reflects the island life of Fiji – laid back, and filled with unique treasures. From open-air markets to local shops, Nadi has something for every shopper.

Shops in Nadi have everything you need. Jewellery, cameras, clothes, handicrafts, artefacts, souvenir items and original artworks are among the many items on offer.

Sarongs (known as “Sulus” in Fiji)

Sarongs are wonderfully wrapped dresses that tie in the front and cascade down the hips to surround the legs with beautiful colours. Some are quite opulent. The sarong is the perfect attire for warmer areas because they are made of very light and free-flowing fabric that does not cause excessive heat to build near the legs. When you wear a sarong you will feel like you are gliding in the air.
