Cave Tour

Duration: 8 hours - Location: Coral Coast
Instant Booking Available

The one hour route you follow to Naihehe Cave, follows the Sigatoka River 42 km. Inland through Fiji's famous "Salad Bowl" and some of the best sights in the country - river valleys and highlands, lush forests and village scenes - past ancient tribal forts, Chiefly burial sites, villages and Hindu temples.

Tour guides will entertain you with legends regarding traditional folklore and religion.

Participate in ceremonies- it's a great way to learn Fijian culture and protocols in a village which is relatively unexposed to tourism!

Visit an ancient cave fortress. Explore a natural wonder - an official geology report names Naihehe as one of the most significant caves in Fiji. A mysterious underground spring has created a freshwater pond and stream while out of the darkness above, comes the steady drip..drip..drip.. Which echoes throughout the cave. It's a pleasantly cool, strange and awesome environment with a history to match.

Itinerary

Your adventure starts with a 35-minute drive through the picturesque Sigatoka valley in the Coral Coast region. Along the ride, you will hear the fascinating history from your guide about the notorious Tongan warriors who reigned supreme in this area and glimpse the ancient hill fortresses.

On the banks of the river, you will participate in customary Fijian welcome ceremony. Once the traditional ceremony is complete, you can tuck into your picnic lunch before a bamboo raft ferries you across the river for the short walk to the caves.

The cave has an easy access with plenty of fresh air and no bats. Enter into the lantern lit chambers to the legendary “Pregnancy Gap”. This opens up to the wondrous Grand Cathedral Chamber with its ritual platform, priest chambers and cannibal oven.

After the cave tour, you shall take a 15-minute trek across the bush and farms down to the river for a downstream bamboo raft ride known locally as "bilibili".  This is the mode of transportation for locals who live near the river. The wide and well-balanced raft shall take you on an exciting ride down the warm and shallow river. You can take command of the raft or just sit back and capture the natural beauty of Fiji’s hardly visited interior.

The bilibili ride down the river takes about 35 minutes and you arrive back to your waiting bus.
