Shopping in Fiji

In the handicraft and souvenir shops you will find typically Fijian handicrafts like baskets and mats woven in grass, masi or tapa cloth, wood carvings bearing animal motifs, pottery items and much more. You will also find objects d’art like cannibal forks and replicas of Fijian war clubs. If you are looking for gifts for friends and family, then pick up some t shirts with typically Fijian designs, or some tanoa bowls with exquisite carvings. Fiji’s national drink kava (yaqona) is mixed and served in these bowls.

Go beserk while shopping in Fiji. Our Fiji shopping guide below will tell you all you need to know to get the best deals and learn about the best places to shop in Fiji. If you get hungry during your shopping spree, stop for some finger food or relax in one of the Fiji restaurants along the Island's many shopping streets.

Fiji Shopping Guide

If you want to carry back a real slice of Fiji, then pick up a sulu. A sulu is a wrap-around skirt like a sarong. It is the national dress of Fiji, worn by men to work, as a day skirt, and by women as an evening dress.

Almost every Fijian town has its own market selling fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood. There are also shops selling jewellery, silks and cottons, patronised mainly by the locals. Stroll down these vibrant markets and pick up things you may not find back at home.

Shops in Fiji are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. but are closed on Sundays. Shops in hotels and resorts keep longer hours and are open through the week. Major credit cards are accepted by most shops.

Shopping in Nadi

The growing and bustling Nadi Town has some of the best shopping outlets in Fiji with numerous shops with colourful designs depicting the tropical colours of Fiji. You will even come across affordable jewellery sold from wheel carts near the Nadi Market. Available are the finest duty free shops selling designer watches, designer clothes and sunglasses, and the diamonds and gold are endless. Have fun bargaining at these shops.

Join the locals and purchase a Sulu with Bula shirt (Sulu is a material, tailor made to wrap around the waist, similar than a skirt. The Bula shirt has got tropical and colourful designs) for men and for women, a sulu jaba (sulu jaba is a long dress with tropical and colourful designs) that can be tailored to your liking.
